Alumna Spotlight:
Kendy Campusano ‘24
Kendy Campusano’s journey from Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic, to becoming a registered nurse exemplifies the transformative power of perseverance and education. After migrating to the United States in 2004 with minimal English proficiency, Kendy faced significant challenges but never wavered in her commitment to building a better future.
Her educational path began at Indian River State College, where she completed the GED program in 2011 after earning her CNA. With generous support from the Indian River State College Foundation, Kendy continued her nursing education, ultimately earning both her RN and BSN degrees from the School of Nursing.
As an adult learner, Kendy encountered obstacles that would have discouraged many, but as she reflects, “Indian River State College always gave me hope.” Her determination paid off—she now serves her community as a registered nurse at a local hospital, directly impacting patient lives every day.
Kendy had the honor of speaking at her BSN commencement ceremony, sharing her inspiring story with fellow graduates and their families. Though bittersweet to complete her final walk as an Indian River State College graduate, Kendy’s success story continues to inspire others facing similar challenges, proving that with dedication and institutional support, dreams are achievable.

Gary Jameson ’77
Gary Jameson, a proud member of the Indian River State College Class of 1977, embodies the drive and determination that define River alumni. During his time at the College, Gary excelled both academically and athletically, making the most of the opportunities available to him.
A dedicated student-athlete, Gary swam on Indian River State College’s NJCAA championship swim team, an achievement that reflects his discipline, teamwork, and commitment to excellence. Balancing rigorous training with his studies helped shape the strong work ethic and focus that would guide him throughout his life and career.
After graduating from Indian River State College, Gary continued his education at Eastern Kentucky University, further expanding the foundation he began at Indian River State College. He later earned an MBA from Xavier University in Cincinnati, strengthening his expertise in business and finance.
Today, Gary serves as a Senior Vice President, Investment Officer, Financial Advisor, and Portfolio Manager at Wells Fargo Advisors. In this role, he brings decades of experience, strategic insight, and a client-centered approach to helping individuals and families plan for their financial futures.
Gary remains proud of his River roots and the role the College played in launching his academic, athletic, and professional journey—a testament to the lasting impact of an Indian River State College education.

Sydney Dupree ’20
Sydney Dupree, a graduate of Indian River State College’s Class of 2020, is a powerful example of how education can launch purpose-driven lives. While at Indian River State College, Sydney built a strong academic foundation and discovered her voice—one rooted in creativity, leadership, and advocacy—that would guide her next steps.
After graduating from Indian River State College, Sydney continued her academic journey at Spelman College, where she distinguished herself as a scholar and leader. In 2023, she graduated as co-valedictorian, an honor that reflects both her intellectual excellence and her commitment to using education as a tool for change.
Today, Sydney is an actress, activist, and artist, using storytelling and creative expression to amplify important social issues and inspire meaningful dialogue. Whether on stage, on screen, or through community engagement, she approaches her work with authenticity, courage, and a deep sense of responsibility to uplift others. Her activism and artistry are closely intertwined, allowing her to connect with audiences in ways that are both compelling and transformative.
