Honoring One of Our First Graduates
The Indian River State College Alumni Association welcomed Dorothy Putnam Roth to campus on May 8, 2025. Dorothy, a member of the inaugural graduating class of 1962, traveled from California with her husband and daughter. A luncheon was held in Dorothy’s honor where she regaled the guests with stories about her time at Indian River Junior College, as well as adventures in New York City, where she completed her Bachelor’s degree at Columbia University.
Alumni Relations Director, Laura Midkiff, welcomed guests, and College President, Dr. Timothy Moore, spoke to the group about the changing landscape of higher education. Also in attendance was Dorothy’s sister, Cynthia Putnam, as well as Brad Culverhouse (Indian River Junior College’s first Alumni Association President), his son, John, Mia Tignor, Dean of Information Services at the College, and Annabel Robertson, Vice President of Institutional Advancement and Executive Director of the IRSC Foundation.
In February 2025, a plaque was dedicated in the Miley Library on the Massey Campus in honor of the first graduating class. A tour following the luncheon included a stop to view the plaque, which delighted Dorothy and her family.
